1. Get Accessorized in Color

Home decor accessories are one of the easiest ways to add color to your home, and easy to change based on seasons, moods or trends.  l change my sofa pillows in winter and summer.  I also switch out my bedding based on season. Other simple ideas to add pops of color can be to paint the mantle or bookshelves, choose a lamp base in a bright hue, or add end tables or decor accessories like vases, bowls and colorful art to accent the room. Stick to one or two colors to create a color scheme and don’t be shy!  Go for the orange and pink if you want whimsical or the pops of blue to feel like your at the beach!

2. WALLS

GET OUT THE PAINT.  A new coat of paint can transform your whole space. Maybe your room feels too cold and you want to create more warmth or perhaps you want a room in your home to be a source of creativity and are inspired by bold colors like reds and greens. Want the room to inspire you ? Paint one room or paint just one wall in a striking color for drama. TILES AND WALL COVERINGS POP.  Colored tiles also are a fun addition to bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms. We love the effect they add to a space, especially if a client is choosing colored glass tiles.  Wall coverings are not out of style!  Many people are under the impression that wall coverings are outdated. Not true! Wall coverings are so much easier to hang than before and one of our favorite accents in designing. Recently one client was looking to be playful and whimsical in their playroom, while another was going for classy yet dramatic in her dining room. The wall coverings pictured below gave them the exact intensity each space needed.

3. Underfoot.

An area rug is also a powerful tool you can use to create additions of color.  Colorful and patterned area rugs instantly elevate any space from the bathroom and kitchen to family rooms and even stairs.  Don’t be wary of color underfoot!  Smaller area rugs are also easy to change out when another color inspires you or again with the change of seasons.

4. Window Treatments that Wow

Gorgeous window treatments are forever getting more beautiful in rich fabrics and patterns. A serene neutral palette we designed in a family room and kitchen pictured below only needed that one pop of blue to give it a dramatic, yet simple addition of color. We have hundreds of colored fabrics in our showroom . It makes us dizzy hunting but finding that right one to add either that tiny hint of color or huge impact. It’s always worth the hunt!

5. Pops in Upholstery

Colorful seating has amazing impact.  A lot of the homes we design have an all white palette that relies on individual pops of color to give life to the room.  Playfully upholstered sofas, chairs and even dining furniture add dimension and intensity to neutral spaces. One of our favorite things to do in designing with upholstery is finding that perfect, wow fabric. There are so many options to choose from!

Being close to the beach, our clients love blue tones and so do we as shown in this stylish Hampton’s bedroom sitting area.

Basically, our message to you is DO NOT BE AFRAID to add color.  Your home should be a reflection of you, and we are all colorful in some way!  We’d love to hear what your favorite color is and why in the comments below… Cheers, Diane
