Decorating a Second Home

Decorating a Second Home

SO you are lucky enough to have that second home; the vacation house, the family retreat, the weekend getaway. For lucky Hampton dwellers, the second home is the ideal and comfortable place to de-stress, relax and reconnect. SO what’s our advice for decorating that second getaway home? GO have fun with the interiors but be practical and unfussy! Beach living is supposed to relaxed and easy.  Most people look for a space to unwind in, entertain in and at the same time, live in. You are entertaining, have a revolving door of guests, and are coming in and out from the beach. Our advice: be practical in the pieces you choose in furniture, fabrics and underfoot as entertaining and high traffic areas should be durable under the constant sandy footprints and exposure to the sea air but you can mix it up too.  You want durable, comfortable furnishings but you can also have that great antique that was handed down through generations.  Mix it up and keep it light, open and easy to entertain.

Take a peek at this client’s second home that was completely renovated for the royal beach treatment.

This client wanted a relaxing, soft and comfortable beach vibe in their home. Coming from the deck and pool area, we needed a high traffic rug and furniture in a durable yet appealing colored fabrics to match their airy palette.  Combining  a mix of soft hues to match the accessories, our client loves this custom sleeper sectional and chair by Four Seasons Furniture and easy to care for rug by Dash & Albert.

This open entry way immediately invites guest to relax in this summer home. Stylish end tables, an inviting sofa and an easy to care for rug in denim by Serena and Lily pull the entry together perfectly.

Go bold and have fun with color. Why not? This strong blue palette is fresh and fun in coordinating coral and blues.

Another bold bedroom retreat in blue and aqua.

The softer side of the beach comes through in this client’s bedrooms in a lighter palette.

Even home office space should feel less like work and more relaxed. This client chose a cool, blue summery palette for her home office space.

When entertaining inside, the kitchen gets the most play! We had a lot of space to work with in this large open layout with the most amazing views. A mix of custom cabinetry, tile and lighting is little more polished in this beach home yet still conveys a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.  Our client wanted to preserve their existing wood table and chairs yet give it the beach update. Re-upholstering the chairs in a light cotton fabric made this piece easy to mix with the rest of the home furnishings we procured.
